I’ll put a spell on you! A librarian played her top trump when she proposed to her boyfriend during a game of Magic: The Gathering.
Geeky Lindsey Loree, 26, designed a special card for the role-playing game which asked her boyfriend, Eric Binfet, 29, to marry him half-way through the match.
She said: “After I dealt the card I sat there nervously. Eric didn’t say anything at first.
“I told him that if he didn’t want to answer, it was OK. I was worried he’d say ‘no’.
“But he was only joking. After teasing me a little bit longer, he said ‘yes’.”
The couple are now planning to marry in 2016.
Miss Loree, a librarian, made a card from scratch bearing a picture of a groom kissing a bride, which included the instructions: ‘Allows Lindsey to propose to Eric. If the proposal is accepted both players win’.
She said: “I’d been thinking about proposing for a while and I liked the idea so much – I thought it would be quite a nice way to tell my fiance that I cared about him.”
Mr Binfet, an underwriter, said: “She learned how to play the game just to do this, because I’ve been playing it since I was 12 years old.
“It’s sweet that she learned it just to propose.”
While she was setting up the game, Miss Loree sneaked her proposal card onto the top of the deck.
She said: “It was a long process. I made the card back in March this year and I just kept it in my wallet for six months until I felt ready and I knew how to use it.
“I was impatient to get engaged. I had a feeling he would be proposing in the next couple of months – but I decided to get in there first.”
Mr Binfet said: “I was caught off guard but actually I was glad that I didn’t have to do it.”
“I was talking about proposing with my dad the previous week. He said I’d have to get up and do it sometime soon and then she went and did it the next week.”
Once the spell had been cast she sealed the deal with a huge fruit-flavoured lollipop ring.
“When I was very young, I think in Elementary school, they had a video where they showed a boy proposing to a girl with a ring-pop.
“I thought it would be the best idea ever for someone to propose to me with a ringpop. So I thought I would do the same. It’s just a shame they didn’t have his ring size.”
Miss Loree, of St. Pauls in Minnesota, USA, popped the question on September 1st 2014.
Magic: The Gathering, a massively popular card trading game, was launched in 1993 and is played by around 12 million people worldwide.
