Frosty squirrel photos

Have you got my best side? A squirrel turns to pose for the camera in frosty Scotland.

As temperatures plummeted in the UK a photographer managed to capture these pictures of a red squirrel hunting for nuts in wintry conditions.

Wildlife photographer James Moore, 42, hid nuts for the inquisitive creatures to find. At one point the alert red squirrel looked directly at his camera lense as he snapped its picture.

Mr Moore said: “I think it wanted me to get his best side.

“They are very alert animals. They have to be wary of birds and other squirrels. It could hear my camera clicking away so he had a look.

“I leave nuts for them quite often so they know me now and are not frightened of me.”

Mr Moore observed the mammals from his custom-built hide on the Black Isle, north of Inverness, last week.

He said: “They look lovely at this time of year, as their coats are bright red.”
